The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, reports that Omani authorities had previously banned flights for a Flydubai pilot who attacked a colleague during a flight, citing concerns about his radical ideological views.
This refers to the second pilot who stabbed the captain and forced the aircraft of flight 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv to rapidly dive toward the ground, after which the plane sent a distress signal and made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
According to the sources, this pilot, who is an Omani citizen, was nevertheless hired by Flydubai despite the existing ban. The publication does not clarify whether Oman shared its concerns with other countries or airlines, nor does it specify what exactly the pilot's radical views were.
Earlier it was reported that Israel is investigating who could have influenced the Flydubai pilot.
